Ductile Iron Pipes: What is a Lok&Play® Locking System?

Lok&Play® locking is a whole set of solutions built around a high-performance restrained joint system.
It is a double-chamber, articulated, flexible and screwless locking system, which is interposed between two pipe bars and prevents them from disconnecting at the design pressure and maximum deflection published by the manufacturer under any installation condition (on terrain, trench or slopes) provided that the limits for which it has been designed are not exceeded. However, it is very different from a sleeve, a system that embraces two pipes.
The basic difference between these two systems is that a sleeve works by friction (that is, it will resist very low pressures) and a locking works by mechanical means (that is, it will resist as much pressure as necessary, provided that it complies with the design rules and the tests established by regulations).
The Lok&Play® locking system, a trademark of CONSTRUTEC DUKTIL, requires that the pipes have a bell and spigot, that they are connected and that locking segments are housed between them.

The first chamber is the sealing chamber, which guarantees zero leaks through the Tyton® type rubber joint, usually in EDPM, whose operating principle is as follows: THE HIGHER THE PRESSURE, THE GREATER THE SEALING.
Once the spigot is inserted into the bell, the segments are placed through a small window. When inserted, they prevent the spigot from disconnecting from the bell, even when working without a trench, since they remain between the locking bead and the chamber.
The Lok&Play® type locking systems we offer are: HDSS®, HP LOK®, TR FLEX® and VRS-T/BLS®.
