Ductile Iron Pipe with TYTON® Joint System

DUCTILE IRON PIPE FOR DRINKING WATER SUPPLY

Since the 1960s, TYTON® joint pipe has become the standard upon which all other flexible automatic joint pipes are based. Designed for use in a wide variety of drinking water and wastewater or sewage projects, it can be used in buried applications, bridge crossings, or above-ground installations.

The availability of thickness classes (K) and pressure classes (C) ensures that TYTON® pipe can meet the most rigorous needs of a strong, reliable, and durable pipe. In addition, it is also available with a variety of external and internal coatings.

Features of TYTON® Ductile Iron Pipe

  • The TYTON® socket joint does not require additional elements such as flanges, glands, or bolts to guarantee a leak-proof pipe, streamlining installation and reducing labor costs.
  • The TYTON® joint consists of a circular rubber gasket made of EPDM (potable water grade conforming to EN 681-1) or NBR (Nitrile for sewerage in compliance with EN 682). Alternative materials can be provided, contact us for details
  • Extremely widespread international adoption: TYTON® joint pipe accounts for over 95% of the market share
  • TYTON® pipe holds FM fire protection certification

Operation of TYTON® type ductile iron pipe

The gasket sits within the socket’s chamber and is compressed when the spigot end of the adjacent pipe is inserted.

Sealing integrity is maintained across pressure ranges, with the water pressure enhancing the gasket’s compression within the socket.

The TYTON® joint achieves sealing through the deformation of the rubber gasket, positioned within the socket, by the fluid pressure upon insertion of the adjacent pipe’s spigot. This results in increased sealing effectiveness with higher line pressure.

  • This joint allows a deviation angle between 3° and 5°.
  • It can adapt to ground movements without breakage.
  • It absorbs small expansions and axial displacements.
  • It reduces the need for special fittings by utilizing the pipe’s inherent curvature of the line.
